Microneedling AKA Collagen Induction Therapy

Microneedling aka Collagen Induction therapy is a safe, minimally invasive, and effective aesthetic treatment for several different skin conditions including acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and stretch marks. Given its expedient post-treatment recovery, limited side effect profile, and significant clinical results, microneedling is a great addition to laser therapy.
Microneedling involves superficial and controlled puncturing of the skin with fine needles. Microneedling leads to reorganization of old collagen fibres and laying down of new collagen, elastin, and capillaries leading to the effect of skin tightening. A significant increase in level of collagen type I, III, and VII, newly synthesized collagen and tropoelastin from baseline was observed after 6 microneedling sessions at 2-week intervals during clinical studies. This percutaneous collagen induction leads to an overall youthful appearance of the skin by reducing fine lines and wrinkles, reducing pore size, more suppleness, and elasticity.
This process can be repeated gradually as needed for additional new collagen, as soon as every month for maximum efficacy of 3 to 5 treatments, although visible improvement is observed after just one treatment.
